Shilpa has spent over two decades in the textile, craft and lifestyle retail space. After a 12 years innings with Fabindia, building their growth story, she quit in 2010, to live her entrepreneurial dreams and co-founded Jaypore, India’s first online retail portal for exquisite Indian handmade and contemporary design craft products. She handed over the baton to a strategic partner and an able team in 2019, while she looked to paint a new canvas of growth.
She is currently mentoring Flourish, a global platform that envisions making ‘conscious consumption’ an accessible lifestyle choice for consumers around the globe, and which upholds values that democratize wealth creation as well as give recognition for creator/producer groups. She continues to nurture two other ventures, Breakaway (an outcome of her passion for travel, this venture plans and executes bespoke Beyond the Brochure experiential journeys around India) and Mustard, (a delectable blend of a shared love for fine food and exceptional experiences, it offers Bengali and French cuisine and has a presence in Goa).
Shilpa is on the board at AIACA and an advisor on the Bain Advisor Network , a global community of Advisors who work with Bain on high-impact projects, adding value through their insights, expertise and connections. Completely aligned to the Vedica vision and mission, respect for its ethos and culture, she has recently been appointed as a member of the Vedica Board of Management (V-BoM) She is an Advisory Board Member for the Bachelor of Design Programme in Fashion and Textile (Sustainable Innovation), at Anant National University (AnantU), India’s first design university, based in Ahmedabad. Her domain expertise finds her actively engaged with the IIM Ahmedabad led CCBP program for young entrepreneurs and the Young India Fellowship (YIF) at Ashoka University ,as a mentor. Shilpa is Co-chair for the Fellows Program at Inktalks, and works closely with a cohort of game changers, across different sectors to amplify their stories. A wealth of experience with the craft sector has enabled many interventions in design at the grassroots level and she participates actively in cluster initiatives committed to women empowerment and livelihood creation opportunities.
